Dallas Elopement at the Aldredge House – Hanna and Nick

Dallas Elopement at the Aldredge House

Aldredge House

I just adore this venue, especially for smaller and more intimate weddings and celebrations, it is the perfect venue for a Dallas elopement.  Hanna & Nick wanted their guests to feel like they had been invited over to their home for a backyard party (turned up a notch, of course!), and I knew that Aldredge House would be the perfect place.  The Aldredge House has both indoor and outdoor spaces as well as a greenhouse, and it photographs beautifully!

Some say that when you know, you know. Such was the case for Hanna Abood and Nick Pike. They met while studying education at Tarleton State University—she’s a second grade teacher and he’s a science teacher and coach. “We sat by each other in a lot of classes and ended up working together in the library,” Hanna says. Despite their immediate connection, Hanna tried to hold off because she had just ended a long-term relationship. But their love for each other was too strong to deny. They soon became more than just study partners.

She was attracted to his gentle and humble nature. When she met his family for the first time, she took the easy-going meeting as a sign.

Two and a half years later, Nick got down on one knee after decorating their first Christmas tree together. “It was just him and I and very sentimental and intimate,” she says. “It was exactly who we are.”

Forty-four days later, they were married.

“I just wanted to rip that Band-Aid off,” Hanna explains. “It made it so much easier for us.”

She didn’t want to spend a lot of time going back and forth about colors, cakes, and dresses. Being teachers, they had very few windows of time in which they could set a date. They also had a limited budget but still wanted the luxury of an elaborate day. So the couple decided on a small wedding for six—just the bride, groom, and their parents. “We wanted to stay focused on what Nick and I wanted and what we felt. And we wanted our parents to truly enjoy the wedding,” she explains.

Hanna knew she needed a wedding planner to pull off all the pretty details that she wanted in such a short time frame. When she came across Birds of a Feather’s website, she immediately reached out to owner Wendy Kay. Hanna wasn’t sure Wendy would take on such a small affair. Thankfully, Wendy obliged. “I don’t know if we’d be married right now if it wasn’t for her,” Hanna says.

Hanna wanted the day to look natural, organic, and airy. She envisioned a green-and-white color palette. Wendy added pops of indigo blue to the cake, place settings, and invitation. Hanna and Nick were married under an archway of greenery at the Aldredge House. Tears were shed and love was expressed.

The couple hosted a dinner of lobster and steak inside the historic mansion. Later, they enjoyed macarons, blueberry galettes, and chocolate-mousse cake. The couple even shared a first dance. “We were extremely happy, and we embraced every moment,” she says.

Other than the logistics of a short engagement, the hardest part for the bride and groom was keeping the wedding date of January 14, 2015, a secret from the rest of their family and friends. Two weeks after the wedding, the couple gathered their family members and surprised them with an announcement—and video of the big day. “Everyone was understanding when they saw how perfect and right it was,” Hanna says.

In the end, Hanna and Nick’s wedding day, just like his proposal, was sentimental and intimate—exactly who they are. – D Wedding Magazine
