The Couple

I work with a lot of couples and while I love them all, sometimes you meet a couple that you instantly click with. Shelley and Jay were one of those couples. They were so much fun and we spent a lot of time together when they were in town, which gave me the opportunity to really get to know them. They love to travel and love to eat (because, who doesn’t!) and they plan vacations around restaurants they want to try. And Jay is a former professional wrestler who went by the name Chance Romance. It doesn’t get much better than that. Except when the lyrics to “Power of Love” are used as a reading at your ceremony and your groomsmen wander the streets of downtown Fort Worth wearing wrestling masks!

The Food

Since Shelley and Jay are HUGE foodies, their dinner had to be something special. With family and friends traveling from out of state, they wanted a menu with some Texas flair. So, we called Tim Love from The Woodshed, who cooked paella over an open pit. To ensure an intimate atmosphere, we set up long farmer’s tables in a beautiful outdoor setting at Artspace 111 and served dinner family style.

After dinner, there was cake from the Layered Bake Shop. Rather than one large bride’s cake, Shelley opted for 3 smaller cakes, which gave me the opportunity to design a gorgeous cake table. Jay loves dinosaurs (No, really. He LOVES them!), so Layered Bake Shop created a realistic looking Jurassic Park groom’s cake. And because Shelley and Jay’s romance blossomed over Starbucks, we served Mocha Coconut Frappuccinos and cake balls for a late night snack.

The Details

Since Shelley and Jay live in Chicago, we decided to pull a little Chi-town into their reception. They took engagement photos in different Chicago neighborhoods, which we then used for “table numbers”. Harts and Quills provided the calligraphy for all of the signage and stationery and I used chalkboard elements for the signage and escort display. And my favorite project from this wedding? The transformation of a vintage dresser into a floral altar for the ceremony!

I hope you enjoyed this wedding as much as I enjoyed designing it!
