Wildcatter Ranch Wedding – Sammie and Hayden

Boho has been a popular wedding trend for the past couple of years, but I had never met a bride that truly embodied the boho spirit until I met Sammie.  She is literally a walking Free People ad inside and out and such a bright light to be around.  I also had the wonderful opportunity to work alongside Sammie’s mom, Bridgette, and it was truly one of the best planning experiences I’ve had with a mother of the bride thus far.  I’ve always considered myself somewhere between type a and type b, as I want all of those t’s crossed and i’s dotted – but those t’s and i’s better be hand calligraphed, flowered, and look amazing!  Bridgette is classic type a and we got along swimmingly as we moved through all of the details of this 500 guest Wildcatter Ranch wedding with ease.

Are you planning a boho wedding?  Tell us about your plans in the comments!

From their feature in The Knot Magazine:

BRIDE: Samantha Curtis, 24, works in the oil and gas industry and GROOM: Hayden Holub, 26, also works in the oil and gas industry. HOW THEY MET: In College WEDDING STYLE: Although their reception was held in a barn, Samantha and Hayden abandoned traditional rustic details for an organic, eclectic ambiance designed by their planner Birds of a Feather.

“Samantha is definitely a free spirit and wanted everything to have a laid-back, bohemian vide.” Hayden says of the earthy twists their planner Wendy Kay put on classic decor.  Samantha’s look even had a vintage feel.  She opted for a glamorous gown with white lace long sleeves and an illusion neckline.  The bohemian style extended to the flower girls, who wore white lace dresses and fringe moccasins, as well as the photo wall, which featured geometric accents and mismatched lanterns.  Samantha carried an asymmetrical bunch of blooms in vibrant jewel tones and fresh greenery accented the couple’s love seat at the head table. The couple did not shy away from cake or sweets.  “We actually had five wedding cakes and a dessert bar complete with a twig teepee,” Samantha says.  After the treats, guests moved inside to the barn for the party and danced all night.

    Lavender and Copper Wedding

Fun little shoot we threw together on a whim due to my current obsession with lavender, concrete, marble, copper, and honey!  Isn’t this greenhouse to die for?!  I feel like there is so much that you could do with it – especially perfect for an elopement or a bridal tea.

From the feature on Magnolia Rouge…

We are loving the more modern touch from this lavender and copper wedding shoot by Birds of a Feather Events shot by Ben Q Photography.  Stylist Wendy Kay with Birds of a Feather blended geometric shapes with a soft color palette and an abundance of romantic blooms – which were created by Petals Couture.  Southern Fried Paper did a modern invitation suite using both lavender and copper.  Ben’s images have a beautiful softness to the, with some magical lighting that we all dream of on our wedding day!

        Mission San Jose

San José, as it became known, was the largest of the missions in the area. At its height, the community contained about 350 Indian neophytes, sustained by extensive fields and herds of livestock. Viewed as the model among the Texas missions, San José gained a reputation as a major social and cultural center. It became known as the “Queen of the Missions.” Its imposing complex of stone walls, bastions, granary, and magnificent church was completed by 1782.  It is known as the “Queen of the Missions”.

        From Green Wedding Shoes…

We love all of the interesting places creativity + inspiration can hide. Case in point: today’s stunner of a shoot, all inspired by the simplest of things – a pretty, little yellow apple. Conceptualized, styled and photographed by the lovely Apryl Ann, with styling + planning support from Birds of a Feather, this editorial is filled with elegant + understated details and the prettiest of palettes. Apryl says, I have always loved opal apples and wanted to incorporate it somehow into my own wedding however due to it’s season ending before my wedding date, I thought it would be neat to design some wedding inspiration around it.

After choosing her color story, based on a Willem de Kooning painting filled with pretty pastels, Apryl decided she wanted to embody the feel of messy tables and slicing apples…love it! She then brought some of her favorite vendors on board including Yeti and the Beast for paper goods + The Southern Table for florals. She told her team We are channeling the French hostess + the design plans were soon underway…

Pantone Color of the Year 2015 – Marsala

Pantone Color of the Year 2015 – Marsala

Pantone Color of the Year 2015

          The Dress

I loved everything about this editorial, but for me the showstopper is the dress from Watters.  If I’m being 100, this is actually a short black bridesmaids dress with a blush skirt on top of it.  I worked with Alethea at Watters to pull this look together once I was unable to find the perfect black wedding dress, and I feel like this turned out even better!  Let me know what you think about it in the comments – would you wear this look on your wedding day?

          From Pantone…

The impactful, full-bodied qualities of Marsala make for an elegant, grounded statement color when used on its own or as a strong accent to many other colors.  Add elegance to any room by incorporating this rich and welcoming hue in accent pieces, accessories and paint. Marsala’s plush characteristics are enhanced when the color is applied to textured surfaces, making it an ideal choice for rugs and upholstered furniture.  This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings, interiors, and of course weddings!

From the feature on Green Weddings Shoes…

How many of you are beginning to brainstorm design ideas for your fall or winter wedding later this year? If so, today’s editorial just might be the inspiration you’ve been looking for! We love the idea of including the Pantone color of the year, Marsala, into your celebration + they way today’s team (Birds of a Feather Events + photographer, Charla Storey) did so is just so good. They set up shop at Hickory Street Annex in Dallas, Texas and created a scene bursting with moody Marsala details and the most perfect florals ever, thanks to The Southern Table! Finally, the setting felt complete with an ultra unique bridal ensemble: a stunning black + pink lace + ruffle gown by Watters. Check it out…
